Why this conversation
In light of means "taking this fact into account": it introduces a piece of information and lets the conclusion follow from it. It is close to "because of" but softer and more reasoned, which is why it is common in business writing ("in light of the audit findings, we are delaying the release"). The drama line is a fragment; the sentence needs a main clause after the comma, and in speech "given" does the same job in one syllable. It is not "in the light of day", and it does not mean "compared to".

왜 이 대화인가
**In light of**는 "이 사실을 감안하면"이라는 뜻으로, 정보 하나를 제시하고 결론이 거기서 따라 나오게 한다. "because of"와 비슷하지만 더 부드럽고 판단이 들어간 말이라 비즈니스 문서에 흔하다("in light of the audit findings, we are delaying the release"). 드라마의 대사는 문장 조각이고, 쉼표 뒤에 주절이 와야 완성된다. 말할 때는 "given" 한 단어로도 같은 일을 한다.
