Lena, Jay's manager, wants an answer today on whether to move the indexer to a new chain. Jay thinks the team needs a few days with the proposal before anyone votes.
Why this conversation
Percolate is what water does in a coffee maker: it seeps through slowly. The figurative uses keep that slowness. An idea percolates when people sit with it and it matures; news percolates through an office when it spreads from desk to desk rather than by announcement. "Let it percolate" is a polite way to refuse a snap decision without refusing the decision. It is not "escalate", and it is not fast; if something spread in an hour, say "spread" or "went round".
Dialogue
Lena: I'd like a yes or no on the chain migration by end of day.
Jay: Can we let it percolate until Thursday? The proposal only went out this morning and half the team hasn't read it.
Lena: Percolate. Like coffee?
Jay: Same word. Water drips through the grounds slowly; an idea drips through a team the same way. Two days and the objections will have surfaced on their own.
Lena: Thursday, then. But I want the objections written down, not percolating forever.
Jay: Fair. I'll open a thread today and pin it.

Lena: percolate.
Jay:
"Can we let it percolate until Thursday?"
"Water drips through the grounds slowly; an idea drips through a team the same way."
