Why this conversation
Think highly of someone means to hold them in high regard, to rate them well as a person or a professional. It is the everyday opposite of "think little of" and reads as a settled opinion, not a passing mood, which is why it is strong in references and performance reviews: "My boss thinks highly of her" carries a third party's weight. It is not "think a lot about her", which would mean she is on your mind. The degree can be tuned: "thinks very highly of", "thinks the world of".
