Jay and Tom are at a conference in Lisbon. The night before Tom's lightning talk, he says he is thinking of pulling it. Jay wants to keep him on the list, and the honest way to do that is to admit he nearly did the same thing himself last year.
Why this conversation
Chicken out (of something) means to decide not to do something because you are afraid, usually at the last moment: "he chickened out of the talk". It is informal and slightly teasing, so between friends it works as a nudge; in a formal meeting say "pull out" or "withdraw". After "of" you put a noun or an -ing form: chicken out of presenting.
