That's the part I'd like you to test me on.

Jay is preparing for a system-design interview abroad. Hana, a friend who has sat many of them, offers a mock round over a video call. Jay knows his weak spot is consistency trade-offs and wants her to drill exactly that, not the parts he already handles well.

Why this conversation

Test someone on something takes the topic with "on": "test me on consistency". When the topic moves to the front as "the part", the "on" stays behind at the end of the relative clause: "That's the part I'd like you to test me on." Dropping the "on" breaks the sentence, however odd it feels to end on a preposition. "Quiz me on" is the lighter version, firing questions; "test me on" is an evaluation. "I'd like you to" is softer than "I want you to" when asking a favour.

Dialogue

Hana: I can run a mock system-design round tonight. Anything specific, or a random prompt?

Jay: Consistency trade-offs. That's the part I'd like you to test me on. I'm fine on the storage layer.

Hana: Consistency it is. Do you want me to quiz you on the terms first, or go straight into a scenario?

Jay: Skip the terms and quiz me on a scenario. If I can't explain when I'd accept stale reads, I fail the real thing anyway.

Hana: Fine. A payment ledger across three regions. Go.

Jay: First thing I'd ask the interviewer is which reads are allowed to be stale, because that decides the whole design.

That's the part I'd like you to test me on.

**Test someone on something**은 주제를 "on"으로 받는다. "test me on consistency". "That's the part I'd like you to test me on." "Quiz me on"은 질문을 던지는 가벼운 쪽이고, "test me on"은 평가다. 부탁할 때는 "I want you to"보다 "I'd like you to"가 부드럽다.

Hana:

"That's the part I'd like you to test me on. I'm fine on the storage layer."
"the part [I'd like you to test me on ___]" — on의 목적어가 the part이므로 빼면 안 된다. "quiz me on a scenario"도 같은 틀이다.
