Could you take one long shot photo so you get the background, and then zoom in on our faces for the second one?
At a viewpoint on a weekend trip, Jay asks Ravi, a stranger with a good camera, to take two photographs of his group: one wide enough to hold the whole valley, and one close on their faces.
Why this conversation
In photography a long shot is a wide frame that keeps the background in, and zoom in on is its opposite. The idiom "a long shot", meaning a slim chance, is a different animal, and the article is the giveaway: the idiom takes "a", the camera term sits in front of a noun like photo or shot. The request frame "Could you ... so you get ..." gives the reason instead of giving an order, which is why a stranger says yes.
Dialogue
Jay: Could you take one long shot photo so you get the background, and then zoom in on our faces for the second one?
Ravi: Wide first, close second. Where do you want me to stand?
Jay: Two steps back for the wide one. The valley matters more than we do.
Ravi: Both done. Long shot, by the way. I first heard it as unlikely.
Jay: A different long shot. The idiom needs an a in front of it. Mine needs a camera.
Ravi: Then I will say a wide shot and avoid the whole problem.

Could you take one long shot photo so you get the background, and then zoom in on our faces for the second one? — 한 장은 배경이 나오게 멀리서, 두 번째는 얼굴에 줌인해서 찍어 주시겠어요?
주말 여행 중 전망대에서 Jay가 좋은 카메라를 든 낯선 사람 Ravi에게 사진 두 장을 부탁한다. 한 장은 계곡 전체가 담기도록 넓게, 한 장은 얼굴이 크게 나오도록.
왜 이 대화인가
사진에서 **long shot**은 배경까지 담기는 넓은 화면을 뜻하고, **zoom in on**은 그 반대다. "승산 없는 시도"를 뜻하는 관용구 "a long shot"은 전혀 다른 말인데, 관사가 단서가 된다. 관용구는 앞에 "a"가 붙고, 촬영 용어는 photo나 shot 같은 명사 앞에 놓인다. "Could you ... so you get ..."
Jay: 다른 long shot이에요. 관용구 쪽은 앞에 a가 붙고, 제 쪽은 카메라가 필요하죠.
Ravi: 그럼 저는 a wide shot이라고 해서 문제를 통째로 피하겠습니다.
협업 기법 세 가지
부탁은 이유와 함께 말한다. "Could you take one long shot photo so you get the background" — so절이 왜 그렇게 찍어야 하는지를 대신 설명해 주므로 지시처럼 들리지 않는다.
같은 단어의 다른 뜻은 관사로 갈린다. 관용구는 "a long shot", 촬영 용어는 "one long shot photo"처럼 명사 앞에 붙는다. 헷갈리면 "a wide shot"으로 피하면 된다.
