Why this conversation
To be gunning for somebody is to be out to get them, looking for a chance to attack or blame them. To bawl somebody out is to scold them loudly, usually in front of others. Both are informal. Careful with the other pattern: "gunning for a promotion" means aiming at a goal, not at a person, and that one is neutral.
