Why this conversation
A gale is a very strong wind, stronger than a breeze and named on the forecast scale; "gale-force winds" is the usual collocation. The second sense is a burst of sound from people, almost always laughter: "gales of laughter" means a room roaring at once. It is a countable noun, not a verb, so a storm cannot "gale".
