Why this conversation
Fornication is a formal religious and legal term for sex outside marriage, and older dictionaries also list a biblical figurative sense of idolatry. It belongs to scripture, sermons, old statutes and translations of them; in ordinary modern English it sounds archaic or preachy, and nobody uses it about their own life.
