Why this conversation
Make a go of something is to make a risky thing succeed by keeping at it — a business, a marriage, a move abroad. The effort over time is the whole point, so one good month does not count. Do not confuse it with give it a go, which is a single attempt: you gave it a go in March, and by December you are making a go of it.
