Why this conversation
To consign something is to send it somewhere, and usually to be rid of it: "consigned to the bin", "consigned to history", "consigned to a life of debt". In shipping it is the plain technical verb — the consignee receives the consignment, and the form asks who consigns the goods. The word is formal and final; in speech say "send" or "throw out" unless you want that weight on purpose.

Jay: Shipping keeps the old words. I consign the goods, the depot is the consignee, and the four boxes are one consignment.

왜 이 대화인가
**consign**은 무언가를 어디로 보낸다는 뜻이고, 대개는 없애기 위해 보낸다는 함의가 있다. "consigned to the bin"(쓰레기통 행), "consigned to history"(역사 속으로), "consigned to a life of debt"(빚에 시달리는 처지로)처럼 쓴다. 운송에서는 담백한 전문 용어다. consignee(수하인)가 consignment(탁송 화물)를 받고, 양식은 누가 화물을 consign 하는지 묻는다. 격식 있고 단정적인 말이라, 그 무게를 일부러 쓰려는 게 아니면 말할 때는 send나 throw out이 낫다.
