Why this conversation
To suborn a witness is to persuade a witness to lie under oath, usually with money, a favour or a threat. The crime is in the persuading: the witness commits perjury, the person who arranged it commits subornation. Note the collocation — you suborn a *person*, never "suborn evidence" (that would be tampering).
