Why this conversation
To do somebody a disservice is to harm them while appearing to help — the opposite of doing them a service. It is the standard English way to criticize false kindness: empty praise, hiding bad news, covering for someone. The grammar is fixed, two objects: do + person + a disservice, and the person can be "yourself". The trap is that it is not a synonym for "be rude to"; the whole point is that the act looked generous from the outside.
