Why this conversation
A halo is the ring of light painted around a holy figure's head, and the same word covers the ring of light around the moon. In "the halo effect" it names the glow that one good trait lends to everything else about a person or a product. It is not a crown, which is worn, and not a spotlight, which comes from outside.
