Why this conversation
An indiscretion is a tactless or morally careless act — countable for one act ("a youthful indiscretion"), uncountable for the habit of not being discreet. In public statements it is a softening word, a polite screen over an affair or a leak. That is the trap: used about something serious, it sounds like you are excusing it.
