Why this conversation
Deluge is literally a downpour or flood and, in work English, an overwhelming rush of things: a deluge of requests, of emails, of complaints. As a verb it is usually passive, "we were deluged with tickets". It is stronger and more written than "a lot of"; "flood" is the everyday twin ("flooded with"). Do not confuse it with "delude", to deceive, which sounds close and means nothing like it.
