In a retro after a side project died, Tom asks Jay what happened to the on-chain analytics pilot. Jay wants to say that one budget decision killed it outright in its third week, not that it slowly faded.
Why this conversation
Snuff out starts with a candle: you pinch the wick and the flame is simply gone. Figuratively it means to end something completely and abruptly — a hope, a rebellion, a project — usually by an outside force and usually before it had a chance to grow. It is stronger than "cancel" or "wind down"; use it when the ending was sudden and final. The bare noun snuff (코담배) is a separate, old-fashioned sense you will rarely need.
Dialogue
Tom: Whatever happened to the on-chain analytics pilot? It just vanished.
Jay: Finance snuffed it out in week three. One line in the budget review and the whole thing was gone.
Tom: Snuffed it out?
Jay: Like a candle. You pinch the wick and there's no flame left. It didn't wind down, it just stopped.
Tom: So nobody even saw the first dashboard.
Jay: No. That's the part that stings. It got snuffed out before it had a chance to prove anything.

Tom:
Tom:
"It didn't wind down, it just stopped."
"Like a candle. You pinch the wick and there's no flame left."
