I'm gonna get the deed to this place back.

Aoife is buying a flat and mentions that her solicitor is "waiting on the deed". Jay has only ever rented and asks what the paper actually is; the conversation drifts to the deposit his Seoul landlord is still holding.

Why this conversation

A deed is the legal document that transfers or proves ownership of property, always "the deed to" a place; title is the legal right of ownership itself, so you hold title and you sign a deed, and the two are related but not the same word. Get something back means to recover what was yours and was lost or handed over: get the deed back, get my deposit back, get the house back. The "back" carries the whole story of loss and return. "Gonna" is speech only; in a message to a landlord or lawyer write "I'm going to" or simply "I'd like my deposit back".

Dialogue

Aoife: The flat is basically mine. The solicitor is just waiting on the deed.

Jay: I've only ever rented, so help me out: is the deed the ownership, or the paper?

Aoife: The paper. Title is the right; the deed is the document that transfers it. You hold title, you sign a deed.

Jay: Got it. My version is smaller: I'm going to get my deposit back from my landlord in Seoul before I fly. Two months' rent, and he's gone quiet.

Aoife: "Get it back" — so you had it, he has it, you want it returned.

Jay: Exactly that. The "back" is the whole story.

I'm gonna get the deed to this place back.

**Get something back**은 내 것이었다가 잃거나 넘긴 것을 되찾는다는 뜻이다. get the deed back, get my deposit back, get the house back. 집주인이나 변호사에게 보내는 메시지에는 "I'm going to"나 그냥 "I'd like my deposit back"이라고 쓴다.

Aoife: "get it back"이라니, 네 거였고, 지금은 그 사람한테 있고, 돌려받고 싶다는 거네.

"is the deed the ownership, or the paper?"
  2. 되찾는 이야기는 get X back 하나로 압축한다. "I'm going to get my deposit back from my landlord" — 잃었다가 되돌아온다는 서사가 back에 들어 있으니 설명을 덧붙일 필요가 없다.
