A Fibonacci retracement draws horizontal levels between a swing low and a swing high (or the reverse in a downtrend), marking the percentages a pullback commonly reaches before the prior move resumes. TradingView plots five ratios by default, 23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8%, and 78.6%, most from the Fibonacci sequence, though 50% is kept by convention rather than by the math. Extensions use the same anchors to project targets beyond 100%, most commonly 127.2% and 161.8%. The tool is popular enough that many traders watch the same levels, part of why price sometimes behaves as it suggests, but the ratios carry no causal power over price. For a beginner the real risk is treating a level as a guaranteed bounce instead of a zone to watch alongside other evidence.
For Jayverse this is a chart-reading habit more than a Number output: draw retracements to see where a pullback is likely to stall, but keep the resulting zone as one input to a reading, never a resolution rule or a standalone entry signal.
Why
Beginners tend toward one of two mistakes here. The first is ignoring Fibonacci tools entirely because the ratios sound like numerology, which throws away a useful habit: marking swing points and watching how price behaves near them. The costlier mistake is the opposite: treating 61.8% as a promise, entering the moment price touches it, and being surprised when the level fails without asking whether the trend, a moving average, or volume agreed. A retracement level is a probability zone built from where pullbacks have tended to stall, not a floor. Confirming it with structure, a moving average, or volume before acting is what separates using the tool from being used by it.
How it works
The five ratios, and the one that isn't a Fibonacci number
TradingView's Fib Retracement tool plots 23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8%, and 78.6% by default. The first four come from ratios inside the Fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89...): 61.8% approximates the ratio of one number to the next (the golden ratio), 38.2% is roughly one minus 61.8%, and 23.6%/78.6% come from ratios further apart. 50% is not a Fibonacci ratio at all; it stays on the tool because a half-retracement is such a common pause point that traders adopted it alongside the real ratios. Knowing which is math and which is convention mainly keeps you from overstating the tool's rigor to someone else.
Anchoring: swing low to swing high, and the reverse
The tool only means something once anchored correctly. In an uptrend, drag from the swing low to the swing high of the move you think is retracing; 0% sits at the high, 100% at the low, so price pulling "into" the fib levels is falling toward the low. In a downtrend, reverse it: draw from swing high to swing low, so a bounce reads as price rising back toward 100% at the high. Getting the direction backwards is the most common beginner error; the numbers still appear, but describe the wrong move. Pick swings that are visually obvious on your timeframe, a clean high and low with real separation, not a small wiggle inside a bigger trend.
The golden pocket, extensions, and confluence
The zone between 38.2% and 61.8% is nicknamed the golden pocket, a pullback range where, by trader convention, a resumption of the prior trend is thought more likely to hold than at a shallower or deeper retracement. Treat it as a zone, not a line: a reaction inside it, a rejection wick, a moving-average bounce, slowing volume, is more useful than a single alarm at 61.8%. Once price resumes, extension levels project targets beyond the swing, commonly 127.2% and 161.8%, drawn with TradingView's Trend-Based Fib Extension tool using a three-point anchor (swing low, swing high, retracement low) instead of the two-point tool. Extensions are the least reliable part of the toolkit; treat one as a candidate target, not a plan, and pair it with a prior high or round number as a second opinion.
On TradingView
Open Fib Retracement from the left drawing-tools sidebar (a slanted line with tick marks) or press Alt+F (⌥+F on Mac); click the swing low, drag to the swing high (reverse in a downtrend), release. Turn on magnet mode first, the magnet icon near the bottom of the drawing toolbar: weak mode nudges your click toward the nearest wick or close, strong mode locks onto it, so the anchor lands on the actual extreme. Right-click the drawn tool → Settings: the Levels tab lists every ratio with a checkbox, color, and label, so you can hide ones you don't use (many keep only 38.2/50/61.8) and add custom ones the same way. For extensions, click and hold the Fib Retracement icon for the flyout group and pick Trend-Based Fib Extension, three clicks, swing low, swing high, retracement low, before it projects 127.2% and 161.8% beyond the swing. Save a configured version as default (right-click → Template → Save as default) so new drawings elsewhere start trimmed.
Where it lands in Jayverse
Number: retracement zones as one logged input. When a reading uses fib confluence, log the anchor swing and the confirming indicator, not just "61.8% held" — the anchor is a judgment call and needs to be reproducible.
Verex: extension levels do not belong in resolution fields. A 161.8% target is a trader's view, not a reference rate; resolution methodology should name a benchmark or venue price, never a drawn level.
Auditor: log the anchor, not just the level. "Price respected the golden pocket" is unfalsifiable without recording which swing low and high defined it; the Auditor row's job is making that choice checkable later.
Theory: retracement depth is a statistic before it's folklore. The "50% pullback" claim is really about the distribution of pullback-to-swing ratios, the same discipline as log returns and volatility work.
Verified and unverified
Verified: TradingView's Help Center documents the default Fib Retracement levels as 23.6/38.2/50/61.8/78.6 and confirms 50% is kept by convention, not derived from the sequence; the Trend-Based Fib Extension tool's three-point anchoring, its 127.2%/161.8% defaults, the Alt+F hotkey, and magnet mode's snap-to-price behavior are documented the same way. Unverified, or rule of thumb: that the golden pocket holds "more often" than other zones is trader convention repeated across the literature, not a published number. The self-fulfilling-prophecy explanation, many traders watching the same zone, is widely stated in classic texts but hard to prove; treat it as a plausible mechanism, not a fact.

왜
초보자는 피보나치 도구에서 둘 중 하나의 실수를 한다. 첫째는 비율이 수비학처럼 들려서 아예 무시하는 것인데, 이는 스윙 지점을 표시하고 그 근처에서 가격이 어떻게 움직이는지 보는, 진짜 쓸모 있는 습관까지 버리는 것이다. 둘째, 더 비싼 실수는 반대다. 61.8% 레벨을 약속처럼 다뤄서 가격이 닿는 순간 진입하고, 더 큰 추세나 이동평균, 거래량이 동의하는지 한 번도 묻지 않은 채 레벨이 깨질 때 놀란다. 되돌림 레벨은 과거에 되돌림이 멈추는 경향이 있던 자리로 만든 확률 구간이지, 바닥이 아니다. 행동하기 전에 다른 것, 구조, 이동평균, 거래량으로 확인하는 것이 이 도구를 쓰는 것과 이 도구에 쓰이는 것의 차이다.
동작 방식
다섯 비율, 그리고 피보나치 수가 아닌 하나
TradingView의 Fib Retracement 도구는 기본으로 23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8%, 78.6% 다섯 비율을 그린다. 앞의 넷은 피보나치 수열(1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89...) 내부 관계에서 나온다. 61.8%는 한 수와 다음 수의 비(황금비)에 가깝고, 38.2%는 대략 1에서 61.8%를 뺀 값이며, 23.6%와 78.6%는 두 칸, 세 칸 떨어진 비율에서 나온다. 50%는 피보나치 비율이 전혀 아니다. 가격 데이터에서 절반 되돌림이 워낙 흔한 정지 지점이라 진짜 비율들과 함께 채택되어 도구에 남아 있는 것이다. 어느 레벨이 피보나치 수학이고 어느 것이 관행인지 아는 것은, 주로 다른 사람에게 차트를 설명할 때 도구의 엄밀함을 과장하지 않기 위해서다.
앵커 고정: 스윙 저점에서 스윙 고점으로, 그리고 반대
이 도구는 제대로 고정해야만 의미가 있다. 상승 추세에서는 되돌리고 있다고 보는 움직임의 스윙 저점에서 스윙 고점으로 드래그한다. 0%는 고점에, 100%는 저점에 놓이므로, 가격이 피보 레벨 "안으로" 되돌리는 것은 고점에서 저점 쪽으로 내려가는 것이다. 하락 추세에서는 앵커를 반대로 한다. 스윙 고점에서 스윙 저점으로 그어서, 반등(하락 추세의 되돌림)이 레벨을 뚫고 고점 쪽 100%를 향해 올라가는 것으로 읽히게 한다. 앵커 방향을 거꾸로 잡는 것이 가장 흔한 초보자 실수다. 레벨 숫자는 여전히 차트에 나타나지만 틀린 움직임을 설명하게 된다. 타임프레임에서 시각적으로 분명한 스윙, 실제로 간격이 있는 깔끔한 고점과 저점을 고르고, 큰 추세 안의 작은 흔들림을 고르지 않는다.
골든 포켓, 확장, 그리고 컨플루언스

왼쪽 그리기 도구 사이드바(눈금 표시가 있는 기울어진 선 아이콘)에서 Fib Retracement 도구를 열거나 Alt+F(Mac은 ⌥+F)를 누른다. 스윙 저점을 클릭해 스윙 고점까지 드래그하고(하락 추세면 반대로) 놓는다. 먼저 마그넷 모드, 그리기 도구 모음 아래쪽의 자석 아이콘을 켠다. 약한 모드는 클릭을 가까운 캔들 꼬리나 종가 쪽으로 살짝 당기고, 강한 모드는 아예 고정시켜서, 앵커가 픽셀 옆이 아니라 실제 극값에 놓이게 한다. 그린 도구를 더블클릭하거나 우클릭 후 Settings를 골라 속성을 연다. Number: 되돌림 구간은 기록된 여러 입력 중 하나. Number 읽기가 피보 컨플루언스(골든 포켓 + 이동평균 반등)를 쓸 때는 앵커 스윙(어느 캔들의 저점·고점인지)과 확인 지표를 기록하지, "61.8%가 버텼다"만 적지 않는다. 앵커 선택은 판단이고 재현 가능해야 한다.
Verex: 확장 레벨은 정산 필드에 들어가면 안 된다. 161.8% 확장 목표는 트레이더의 견해이지 참조 금리가 아니다. 피보 기반 목표는 마켓 정산 방법론에서 빼고, 정산 방법론은 벤치마크나 특정 거래소 가격을 명시해야지 그려진 레벨을 명시하면 안 된다.
Auditor: 레벨이 아니라 앵커를 기록한다. "가격이 골든 포켓을 존중했다"는 어느 스윙 저점과 고점이 그것을 정의했는지 기록하지 않으면 반증 불가능하다. Auditor 행의 역할은 그 앵커 선택을 나중에 검증 가능하게 만드는 것이다.
Theory: 되돌림 깊이는 관행이기 전에 통계다. "50% 되돌림" 이라는 통설은 실제로는 되돌림 대 스윙 비율의 분포에 대한 주장이다. 이것을 신비한 숫자로 반복하는 대신 실제로 측정 가능한 것으로 다루는 것이, 로그 수익률과 변동성 작업과 같은 규율이다.

확인된 것: TradingView 도움말 센터는 기본 Fib Retracement 레벨을 23.6/38.2/50/61.8/78.6으로 문서화하고, 50%가 피보나치 수열에서 유도된 게 아니라 관행으로 포함됐다고 확인한다.
