Why this conversation
To stoop to something is to lower yourself to behaviour you consider beneath you — "I won't stoop to that", "he stooped to lying". The image is bending down, so the phrase always carries a judgement: the speaker thinks the act is degrading. Note that "to" takes a noun or an -ing form, not a bare verb, and this is not the physical "stoop" that means to bend over.

왜 이 대화인가
**stoop to**는 자기 격에 못 미친다고 여기는 행동까지 수준을 낮춘다는 뜻이다. "I won't stoop to that", "he stooped to lying"처럼 쓴다. 몸을 굽히는 이미지라서 늘 판단이 담긴다. 말하는 사람이 그 행동을 품위 없다고 보는 것이다. to 뒤에는 명사나 -ing가 오고 동사원형은 오지 않으며, 몸을 굽힌다는 뜻의 stoop와는 다른 쓰임이다.

"I'm not going to stoop to that"은 화내지 않고 거절하는 문장이다. 상대의 제안을 비난하지 않으면서 내 기준만 밝힌다.
같은 동사를 농담으로 되받으면 대화가 부드럽게 닫힌다. "I'll stoop to being boring, not to lying."처럼 -ing를 붙여 쓰면 문법도 함께 보여 준다.
