Why this conversation
Keep off something means staying away from it on purpose — food, alcohol, a topic. It is the everyday phrase a doctor uses ("keep off salt for a month") and it is softer than "cut out", which means stop completely and for good. The same verb gives "keep off the grass" and "keep off the subject". The trap is the preposition: it is keep off the thing, never "keep off from".

왜 이 대화인가
**keep off something**은 의도적으로 무언가를 멀리한다는 뜻이다. 음식, 술, 화제 모두에 쓴다. 의사가 흔히 쓰는 일상 표현("keep off salt for a month")이고, 완전히 끊는다는 뜻의 "cut out"보다 약하다. 같은 동사가 "keep off the grass"(잔디에 들어가지 마시오), "keep off the subject"(그 얘기는 꺼내지 않다)로도 쓰인다. 함정은 전치사다. keep off the thing이지 "keep off from"이 아니다.
